NBL Round 13: Hawks edge Saints by two points

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in NBL. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 13 in the NBL took place in Tamatea. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Saints (7-9) to eighth ranked Hawks (6-10) 87-85 on Saturday evening. American forward Ira Lee (203-1998, college: Arizona) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Hyrum Harris (198-1996, college: Umpqua CC) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Australian guard Kyle Adnam (186-1993) produced 15 points and 6 assists for lost side. Hawks moved-up to seventh place. Saints lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Hawks are looking forward to face league's leader Tuatara in Auckland in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Saints will play at home against Jets (#9) and are hoping to win this game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Dunedin. Third ranked Nuggets faced their biggest opponent Bulls. Host Nuggets (11-5) defeated guests from Pukekohe (11-5) 86-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Bulls. Worth to mention a great performance of Australian guard Michael Harris (193-1999) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!). Todd Withers contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Tyrell Harrison (214-1999) answered with 13 points and 7 rebounds for Bulls. Nuggets have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Bulls. Nuggets will play against Giants (#6) in Stoke in the next round. Bulls will play at home against Airs (#8) and hope to get back on the winning track.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Auckland. First ranked Tuatara faced 4th placed Rams. Host Tuatara (13-3) smashed guests from Christchurch (9-6) 104-81. Robert Loe stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. At the losing side Maxwell Darling responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tuatara have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-3 record. Rams at the other side keep the fourth position with six games lost. Tuatara will meet Hawks (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Rams will play against Jets in Palmerston North and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 13 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Tuatara defeated Airs in Auckland 108-94. Sharks were smashed by Bulls at home 72-102. Jets lost to Giants on the opponent's court 87-92.
The best stats of 13th round was 28 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists by Jarrad Weeks of Tuatara.




Airs - Tuatara 94-108

There was no surprise in New Plymouth where 8th ranked Airs (5-10) were defeated by first ranked Tuatara (13-3) 108-94 on Thursday. Tuatara shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 59.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Airs' players. The former international swingman Reuben Te Rangi (198-1994) stepped up and scored 30 points for the winners and the former international power forward Robert Loe (211-1991, college: St.Louis) chipped in 23 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side guard Carlin Davison (196-2003) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds and American swingman Anthony Hilliard (195-1986, college: ECSU) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Tuatara have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-3 record. Airs at the other side keep the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Jets. Tuatara will meet Hawks (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Airs will play against Bulls in Pukekohe and hope to secure a win.

Sharks - Bulls 72-102

No shocking result in a game in Southland where second ranked Bulls (11-5) smashed bottom-ranked Sharks (5-11) 102-72 on Friday. Bulls made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game, while Sharks only scored three points from the stripe. Bulls forced 22 Sharks turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American Jared Wilson-Frame (196-1996, college: Pittsburgh) stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Rickey McGill (188-1997, college: Iona) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. Five Bulls players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Jeremy Kendle (186-1988, college: Bellarmine) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Australian forward Grant Anticevich (206-1999, college: California) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sharks' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Bulls have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-5 record having just two points less than leader Tuatara, which they share with Nuggets. Sharks lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 11 games lost. Bulls will meet at home Airs (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Sharks will play against Rams and hope to secure a win.

Giants - Jets 92-87

Everything could happen in Stoke at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Giants and 6th ranked Jets had identical 5-9 record. This time Giants used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Palmerston North 92-87 on Saturday night. American point guard Avery Woodson (188-1993, college: Butler) stepped up and scored 36 points (!!!) for the winners and center Callum McRae (216-1999, college: Sacramento St.) chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the losing side American forward Danny Pippen (206-1997, college: Kent St.) responded with 28 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Mustapha Heron (196-1997, college: St.John's) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds. Four Jets players scored in double figures. Giants (6-9) moved-up to sixth place. Jets at the other side dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Airs. Giants will meet at home league's second-placed Nuggets in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Jets will play against Rams (#4) and hope to secure a win.
